If you are having a lazy day at home, don’t bother drying your hair. Tousled bedhead is in style, so add some mousse to enhance natural waves and let your hair air-dry. Curl up on your couch and have some time to yourself while you give your hair a break. If you need to go out, simply add some hairspray and shine serum to stray hairs and you will be good to go.

The way you comb wet hair is very important. Most people comb their hair from root to tip. This only creates more tangles for you to contend with. Your hair is very fragile when it is wet, so you don’t want to cause breakage by hurrying through this important step. Instead of combing from root to tip, comb from tip to root. Simply start combing the last two inches of your ends and then slowly work your way up. It will save you a lot of time and heartache — and your hair will thank you.

Make sure you eat plenty of vitamin-rich foods and drink plenty of water. To ensure you get enough vitamins, take a multivitamin or prenatal vitamin daily. Prenatal vitamins generally contain more biotin, iron, folic acid and calcium than multi-vitamins. Many people use prenatal vitamins even though they are not pregnant to help their hair grow. Choose a vitamin that best suits your daily needs based on your diet.

We all avoid getting our hair trimmed when we are striving for a longer hairstyle. Hair that is over-styled without being trimmed will develop split-ends and breakage. Make sure you get trims regularly. If you are happy with the length of your hair, get a trim every six to eight weeks. If you are growing your hair out, get a trim every eight to 12 weeks. If you have short hair, it will need more upkeep with a trim every four to eight weeks.

Heat protectant sprays are a must if you style your hair regularly. Many of them add shine and moisture to your hair, as well protect it from heat. Unfortunately, many people make the mistake of choosing heat protectant sprays containing alcohol. Products that contain alcohol will dry out your hair, which can cause frizz and split ends. Check the labels on the heat protectant sprays you own, and choose an alcohol-free brand like Ion in the future.
