Hair basically consists of two parts -the hair follicle, which is buried deep into the scalp and is also known as the root and hair shaft which is the strand generally visible on the head. Due to many factors, this hair follicle might get damaged beyond repair and result in hair loss and subsequent baldness. Hair transplant is manna for people who have undergone loss and consequently suffer from mental trauma. Yet, being a relatively new field, not many people know about its process or modus operandi.
Hair transplant is a technique wherein hairs from a donor site like the chest, beard etc., are transplanted onto the bald head thereby inducing hair growth. While the hair transplant cost can be quite high the end result rather justifies the cost involved. This procedure is very different from the technique of skin grafting wherein the whole of the epidermal skin surrounding the follicle is transplanted in many tiny grafts.
Hair required for transplant is done by harvesting it in two ways. One process is strip harvesting wherein a tiny strip of the scalp tissue is removed, cut into tiny pieces called grafts and then transplanted onto the thinning scalp in very tiny recipient sites. The other and more popular process is that of FUE harvesting where FUE stands for follicular unit extraction. This type of Fue hair transplant includes the removal of follicular units having up to 4 hairs under local anaesthesia and then put into the recipient sites by the surgeon. Generally done using techniques which are technically advanced and most modern, this process of transplanting on the head has seen considerable success.
Since transplant using the FUE technique requires no sutures and even the post-operative pain is greatly reduced, recovery is rather very fast. This makes it score over strip harvesting. The transplant cost in Delhi using this technique is roughly around Rs. 28 per graft with a minimum of 1000 grafts required. While affordability is always a criteria in the selection of the technique, care should also be taken to choose the technique which suits best. This ensures a successful transplant and also the involvement of lesser hassles by way of aches, pains and scars after the process has been completed.
It might be a process requiring the involvement of surgeons but the whole procedure involved can, at best, be called a minimally invasive process. While mild swellings or the appearance of blood clots are minor side effects of this procedure, it can be generally termed as safe. With growth of hair visible within 1 to 3 months after this process has been carried out, the end results far exceed the expectations with which most people come to get it done.
